BREAK DA HOUSE STATMENT /// BREAK DA HOUSE STATMENT

'After 5 years of putting on breaks, electro & eclectic beats parties in Bournemouth's & becoming one of the biggest parties in the south, Break da House will be calling it a day. Our last party which also doubles up as our 5th birthday party will be on Friday 17th July at Club Be, Bournemouth (formerly 2020 & K-Bar) with 1 our all time fave guest the legendary Dub Pistols alongside of long term residents D*Funk & Lee Nazari as well as BdH new boy Dr Fish & long time friend Gaz White. Also joining us, all the way from sunny Australia in Sangers & N’fa.

Over the past 5 years we've put on some amazing parties featuring the likes of Plump DJ's, Stanton Warriors, Meat Katie, Lee Coombs, The Freestylers, Evil Nine & worked with other promoters such as Tribal sessions, Club Class & 2020Rocks. We've put on & been part of events at Dusk Till Dawn, K-Bar, 2020 & 2020Rocks, Ministry of Sound, Junk, Motion & many more. We’ve helped build & shape the music scene in the south, always trying to push the scene forward & bring the music which we love to an audience that, without us, would have missed out on such great music & artists.

We decided that we would go out with a bang & make our 5th birthday party our last. It's a massive achievement for an independent night that was started by a few friends to make it to the ripe of age of 5 & to have done what we've done over the past half decade.

The reason we’ve decided to call it a day now is that when we started the night it was 4 mates who we’re putting on a party for like-minded people with music that wasn’t being played anywhere else. From what started as a small night, through a lot of love & hard work we’ve managed to build a respected night that’s put breaks, electro & eclectic beats on the map in Bournemouth.

Now it’s 5 years down the line & everyone involved in running the night have gone their own way. Doug is off to Australia for a year in Sep & has started his own label, ‘Up:Start Music’. Naz has formed Rogue Robots & is putting on his own electro parties, ‘Perv Circus’. Doris is in Ibiza every summer where he is resident at the legendary Space. Ben is doing his own ‘Speakeasy’ nights. It seemed to us that the reason we had for doing events in the first place had gone & rather than carry on for the wrong reason that when we reached the milestone that is our 5th birthday we would put on 1 last huge party & go out on a high.

Break da House signing off. We salute each & everyone who has lost it on the dancefloor...'

D-Funk 'Party People' / 'Up In My Head' / 'Ghettoblaster' out now on Up:Start Music...

Up:Start Music head honcho & Breakspoll 2009 nominee D-Funk is back with a corker of a 3 track EP. The aptly named 'Party People' is a slice if hands in the air break beat that's got a killer riff straight out the Plump DJ's book & tasty retro synths that wouldn't be out of place on an old Orbital track. 'Up In My Head' & 'Ghettoblaster' complete the release. Both feature heavy beats & wonky bass...

Up:Start Musis is the new Break beat led label from d*Funk, part of the brains behind Break da House. Up:Start Music's debut release, d*Funk's 'Bust This EP' feat MC Manic is out now. Rated 4/5 by both Mixmag & DJMag. It's also been played on KISS FM by Jay Cunning on his Breaks show & had support from the likes of Aquasky, Cut La Roc, Meat Katie, Kickflip, Jimmy Mofo & Mr No Hands. D*Funk feat MC Manic - 'Bust This EP' - Upstart Music.
'Jump-start the party'.

If this is anything to go by, Bournemouth’s Doug Masters aka D*Funk may be one to watch this year. Having kick-started the new label ‘Upstart’ with the brilliant MC Manic on mic and its infectious wonky hooks, the feel good vibes of this party piece defiantly require some plays from the back of a carnival float this summer.
4/5 - Mixmag review (March 2009)

D*Funk - Bust This (Up:Start Music).
Here's another new label, emanating from D*Funk and the excellent Break Da House night in Bournemouth. There's a tasty gnawing tinpanny sound to the topline on 'Bust This', which gives it a Paul Woolford feel, and MC Manic from the Freefall Collective busts out some nice rhymes in a rub-a-dub stylee. 'Drop Out' boasts tougher breaks and a warping bassline that underpins garagey beats in the midsection. The "Turn on, tune in, drop out" sample adds extra trippiness, while 'Sonic Boom' is a bit techier - plumpy sideswipes and perhaps the sound of Meat Katie grunting power it to a close.

d*Funk's remix of 'Cab Ride In Chicago' by Modrocker is out now on Nitrous records
.

'It's 6.15 in the morning. I'm drunk & I'm high' runs the vocal. We've all been there. Hazy dance floor memories... Sitting somewhere between electro, house & breaks, d*Funk's interpretation of Modrocker's 'Cab Ride In Chicago' is an electronic gem. With it set to a rasping 4/4 stlye beat, with wobbly baselines a planty & with it's tounge in cheek vocal this genre straddling remix should ignite pretty much any dance floor.'
